Nominating a Pharmacy: What It Means and How to Change

By the Village Green Pharmacy team · Updated September 2026
NHS App screen explaining pharmacy nomination

What nomination actually is

Nominating a pharmacy tells the NHS where to send your electronic prescriptions. Once set, your GP's prescriptions travel straight to that pharmacy without you handling a paper slip.

You can nominate any pharmacy in England, change it whenever you like, and you do not need permission from your surgery or your current pharmacy.

Changing to us takes two minutes

Use the nomination form on our website, or tell us in the pharmacy, and we will set it up. It takes effect from your next prescription; anything already sent elsewhere stays there.

Nobody needs to ring your old pharmacy, and there is no awkward conversation involved.

Why people switch to us

Usually the hours — we are open until 9pm Monday to Saturday and 8pm on Sunday, which is well beyond most pharmacies in the area. Often the free local delivery. Sometimes simply wanting a pharmacy where the same people are behind the counter each time.

You are not locked in

Nomination is not a contract. If it does not suit you, change it back. It costs nothing either way.
