Ear piercing is not regulated in the way people often assume, and standards on the high street vary considerably. Having it done at a pharmacy means a clean clinical setting, sterile single-use equipment, and a trained healthcare professional doing it.
We pierce ear lobes only. Cartilage piercing carries a higher infection risk and we do not offer it.
The pharmacist checks the ears, marks the position and gets you to confirm you are happy with it before anything happens, then uses a sterile single-use stud. Both ears take a few minutes in total.
For children, a parent or guardian needs to be present and give consent.
The piercing itself is quick; keeping it clean over the following weeks is what determines whether it heals well. We give full written aftercare advice, and the short version is: clean twice daily with saline, do not twist the studs, do not change them too early, and keep hands away.
If something looks wrong afterwards, come back and we will look at it — you are not on your own with it.
